Last semester, students told us that they wanted to know about more fun events going on in Boston. Like many of you, I have also found that it can be easy to get stuck inside the “BC bubble” and to do the same things, with the same people every weekend.
Enter: The Boston Calendar - https://www.thebostoncalendar.com/
Their website states: “The Boston Calendar is a place for Bostonians (and non-locals) to find interesting, fun, under-publicized, mostly-free events happening around the city and surrounding areas (e.g. Cambridge, Somerville, Brookline).” You can head over to The Boston Calendar’s site to find things like free yoga classes, dance lessons, discounted lift tickets, free concerts, food tours, and much much more! If you subscribe to their website, they will email you a list of “events that don’t suck” in Boston every Wednesday for the coming weekend.
These fun events in Boston are a great opportunity to deepen friendships with the people you really care about. At the beginning of 2019, I asked myself a few questions:
What relationships do I want to cultivate in 2019?
Who do I want to know better?
Which people can I be myself around?
Which people could I see becoming my friends for life?
As a result of this intention, one of my good friends and I have been going to Café Landwer every Friday afternoon to get milkshakes! (Oreo Milkshake is amazing and delicious). It has been a great way to stay up to date and involved in each other’s lives.
So, text a few good friends and do something fun and different this weekend. In my experience, the best way to deepen friendships is to spend quality time together.
